About us
Partners in Advocacy started as part of Barnardos in the 1980's, and is the oldest-established advocacy project in Scotland. It became completely independent in 1998. It was originally a citizen advocacy project for people who use learning disability services, but more recently has developed to include short-term advocacy and self-advocacy groups. We now also have a children's & young peoples advocacy service which works with children & young people with any additional support needs. As well as a mental health advocacy service for 11-21 year olds who use or have used mental health services.Wherever possible we will provide language interpretation and translation including British Sign language (BSL) and braille.
Partners in Advocacy works within the Scottish Independent Advocacy (SIAA) guidelines of good practice and to current legislation. See our range of policies
The organisation is managed by the Chief Executive Officer (Julie Hogg, who is also the Company Secretary) and a Board of Trustees. The current members of the Board are (February 2009):
