Advocacy is about supporting you to speak out, to express your views and defend your rights. You may feel that your opinions or ideas are not being listened to or you are not being offered all the opportunities and choices you want. Advocacy aims to challenge this by supporting you to: • Express your views • Access information and services • Promote your rights • Explore your choices and options How can we help? We can support you with issues like: • Going to Children’s Panels • Contacting social workers and other professionals • Speaking to teachers and schools • Looking at opportunities in your community • Help with benefits and housing Advocates will not tell you what to do or decide things for you. Advocacy may be long-term citizen advocacy, short-term issue-based advocacy, or self-advocacy groups. Some advocacy is for adults who use learning disability services and some is for children and young people with additional support needs and mental health problems.
